Mental Health Benefits of Going Offline
In a world where we are always connected, it is time to stop and consider how this is affecting our mental health. In an excerpt from the “Wellness Meets Happiness” Trend, 2018 Global Wellness Trends Report there is evidence of a turning tide, and being unplugged is the new cool. I know this is something I personally struggle to maintain boundaries, as a business owner and digital nomad it is unusual for me to be without my smartphone or laptop for more than a few hours at a time and I am not alone.
Economist Thierry Malleret argued, 2018 is the year that we will begin to grasp how constant tech connection is making us unwell, unhappy and unproductive—and it will be the year that “reclaiming our peace of mind and focus will actually become cool.” I know it is certainly on my to do list and I am taking steps each day to be in the real world, I especially love to go kite surfing or scuba diving where I have to leave my phone behind!
