New Year, New You?

Last year absolutely flew by, and I am sure this year will do the same! As we welcome in 2019, I encourage you to do as I have done and take stock of your physical and mental health. As the owner of a wellness-based company and in discussion with others who work in the healthcare industry, we are amongst the most likely to need to take heed of our own recommendations.

So this year instead of setting resolutions, I have decided to choose health, in everything I do. I will first ask myself ‘Is this the best option for me?’

I plan to spend more time offline in the real world and I am excited by another big year of adventures (and not things). My husband and I will travel the world together again this year, working remotely in different time zones and vastly different climates. We plan to snowboard at Whistler and see the Northern Lights in the Yukon, visit the Caribbean and cheer on the All Blacks in Japan for the Rugby World Cup.

And I will be focused on the 5 core elements for health

  1. Rest – Aiming for 7-8 hours sleeps per night is where I operate at my optimum.

  2. Water – I know this alone can make a significant difference.

  3. Nourish – I will eat a variety of fruit and vegetables and remember that healthy eating is a privilege not a punishment. No more fad diets.

  4. Move – In ways that bring me joy and keep me mobile for everyday practical living for the long term. We’ll also be learning to snowboard and get out for more kitesurfing whenever the chance presents itself.

  5. Be Mindful – Through mediation in the traditional format (I love the headspace App) and just actively disconnecting online to spend more time in my life.
